Tourism in French Guiana: The best places to visit in French Guiana

1. Cayenne, take a tour to the Place des Palmistes

Main square of the city of Cayenne in French Guiana. Best place to meet people and discover the different culinary meals of the department. You will also discover its history with the presence of the column of the Republic built in 1890 for the commemoration of the Bastille Day and also the statue of Felix Eboue.

2. Kourou, visit the space port of Europe

The space center of French Guiana is the only one open to visit (for free). You can discover the installations, attend a launch, explore the savannah with the National Forestry Office, or visit the space museum (fee).

3. The prison in French Guyana

The Salvation Islands

The archipelago of the Salvation Islands, comprising three islands: Devil's Island, Royal Island and Saint-Joseph Island. It was the place of incarceration of prisoners of the penal colony. Historical heritage, the Salvation Islands are a must-see tourist spot in French Guiana.

The Transportation Camp in Saint Laurent

It was the largest prison in French Guyana. This prison was the central prison of French Guyana.  The entrance is free for the visit (by yourself) of half of the complex. The rest of the prison, the exhibition rooms, are not free.

4. Treasure Reserve: Exploring the Amazon Rainforest

Come and walk a botanical trail 1.7km long. It is the 3rd largest nature reserve in France by area. You will discover a natural ecosystem and a unique biological wealth in the world. You will be able to meet monkeys, tapirs, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes during your journey.

When to visit French Guiana ?
